Van Nuys, CA (October 14, 2016) – A team of successful restaurant professionals from Maria’s Italian Kitchen will teach local high school students the skills they need to succeed in the restaurant and hospitality industries during the third annual FIT Day on October 25.
Maria’s Italian Kitchen is a proud member of a profession that allows students to fulfill their dreams of becoming a chef, or working in management and executive leadership positions within a company or even opening their own businesses.
And, FIT™ Day is just one of the many ways which Maria’s Italian Kitchen gives back to the local community. Our company believes that food and hospitality bring people together and the CRAF’s FIT™ Day is a great way to connect with the leaders of tomorrow.
This event, during which our staff volunteers, occurs at 43 high schools statewide, teaches students soft skills such as how to ace a job interview, how to write a solid resume, and how to approach a career with a positive attitude – skills critical in any career. In addition, our volunteers will also share personal anecdotes about their experiences and offer advice to the next generation of leaders, especially women leaders. As a 100% woman owned business, Maria’s Italian Kitchen will have a team of representatives including President and owner Madelyn Alfano and District Manager Peggy Gonzales. Both will encourage and inspire the next generation of women in the hospitality industry.
“Maria’s is your neighborhood Italian restaurant and you can’t be a neighbor if you don’t give back to your community and participate,” explained Madelyn Alfano, an industry veteran and owner of Maria’s Italian Kitchen on why it is imporant for her team to partcipate and give back to these students.
FIT Day is a part of ProStart, a program offered through the California Restaurant Association Foundation that provides industry-driven career-exploration programs for high school students. The third annual FIT™ Day represents a new and exciting way to further inspire the lives of budding talent.
“I am excited to share my restaurant experience with upcoming restraunters. I’ve been with the same company for 20 years and I have a passion for the business that I want to instill in them,” tells Gonzales.
